Your body is a temple.

How often have we heard that phrase? How often have we seen it printed on signs and T-shirts?

For years, I thought it was just a nice thought; a motivational tool to get people to hit the gym.

It was only when I started reading God’s Word that I realized it came from the Bible. The phrase is found in 1 Corinthians 6:19, where the apostle Paul writes:

(19) Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; (20) you were bought at a price. Therefore honour God with your bodies.

I have to admit, that since Covid, I have not been treating my body as the sacred gift it is from God. While I have been wanting to be more intentional about eating right and moving more, I realize that up until recently, my motivation wasn’t compelling enough.

I wanted to be healthier for me - and me alone.

But God has given me a greater reason.

He reminded me that my body is not just mine, it’s actually His. It’s His gift to me, to carry out a purpose He has given me. It’s on loan to me. And just like every other good gift He gives, we are expected to be good stewards.

Is there an area of your life where you are feeling stuck? Is there something you have been wanting to do, but you just keep putting it off? Maybe, like me, you need to clarify your “why” - the reason you want to do it in the first place.

Colossians 3:16 reminds us that whatever we do, we should work at it with all our hearts, as if working for God, not man.

Having a divine motivation, can turn even the most mundane task into something meaningful. A simple assignment can have sacred significance with the right mindset.

Sometimes we need a reason bigger than ourselves to get us moving and keep us on track.

As A.R. Bernard wrote, “Life is God’s gift to us. What we do with it, is our gift to God.”

Blessings,

Lori
